Yakin Byoutou Online -New Operation- Announced as Free-to-Play Card Battle RPG

The long-running Yakin Byoutou (Night Shift Hospital) franchise is expanding its video game lineup with a new title, Yakin Byoutou Online -New Operation-. The upcoming free-to-play card battle RPG is reportedly being published by FANZA GAMES, with pre-registration now open in Japan. However, an official release date has yet to be announced.

Originally released for PC in 1999, Yakin Byoutou became a recognizable name in Japan’s adult gaming market. The new installment will revisit the franchise’s familiar hospital setting while introducing a different gameplay format focused on card collection, deck building, and strategic battles.

The game returns to St. Lupinus General Hospital, bringing back characters from previous entries. Players will assume the role of a junior doctor working under Ryuji Hirasaka, the protagonist of the original game. During their time at the hospital, they will encounter familiar heroines and become involved in card battles connected to their stories.

Unlike the earlier games, Yakin Byoutou Online -New Operation- places greater emphasis on RPG-style progression. Players can collect cards through a gacha system and assemble decks tailored to their preferred strategies. Building an effective deck will be essential for challenging opponents and progressing through the game’s content.

Winning battles also unlocks character-specific story scenarios, linking combat progression with narrative development. This system gives players additional reasons to strengthen their collections while discovering more about the returning characters.

The transition to a free-to-play card battle RPG represents a new direction for the franchise, moving away from its original PC visual novel format toward a gameplay experience built around collectible cards and repeatable battles.

For longtime fans, the return of familiar characters and the St. Lupinus General Hospital setting provides a connection to the series’ history. Meanwhile, the card-based mechanics introduce a different way to interact with its world.

At present, the game has been confirmed for the Japanese market, where pre-registration is already available. The publisher has not announced a launch date or confirmed plans for an international release.

More information about the game’s release schedule, card roster, and additional gameplay features is expected to be revealed as development progresses. Until then, fans will have to wait for further announcements about the next chapter in the Yakin Byoutou franchise.
