Live-Action Mashle Film Reveals Mackenyu as Mash Burnedead, Set for March 2027

The upcoming live-action film adaptation of MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES has revealed Mackenyu as its protagonist, Mash Burnedead. Directed by Yuichi Fukuda, the movie is scheduled to premiere in Japan on March 19, 2027.

A teaser visual and new teaser video were released alongside the announcement. The footage shows Mackenyu receiving the fake facial mark Mash uses to conceal his inability to perform magic, as well as a scene of the character doing bench presses.

Mackenyu is best known internationally for portraying Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE adaptation.

Mackenyu Spent Three Years Preparing for the Role

Mackenyu revealed that he spent approximately three years preparing physically for the role after receiving the offer. He also discussed the challenge of portraying Mash, who rarely displays emotion, while communicating the character’s personality through his extraordinary physical strength.

Director Yuichi Fukuda, whose previous live-action manga adaptations include Gintama and Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku, said he offered Mackenyu the role shortly after the project received approval.

Fukuda added that the film features what he considers his strongest possible cast, with many performers collaborating with him for the first time.

Production and Cast Details

Warner Bros. Pictures and Fuji Television are overseeing the production, with CREDEUS handling production and Toho distributing the film in Japan. CREDEUS has previously worked on live-action projects such as Kingdom, Blue Lock, and Kokuho.

The currently announced cast includes:

About Mashle: Magic and Muscles

Hajime Komoto’s Mashle manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2020. VIZ publishes the series in English, and it is also available through MANGA Plus.

The story takes place in a world where magic is used for practically everything. Deep in the forest, Mash Burnedead lives a peaceful life with his father while dedicating himself to physical training. However, Mash cannot use magic, and his unusual condition eventually puts his life in danger.

Rather than relying on spells, Mash uses his exceptionally trained muscles to confront magic users, setting the stage for an unconventional fantasy adventure.

The anime adaptation’s first season ran for 12 episodes, followed by a second 12-episode season in Winter 2024, which covered the Divine Visionary Selection Exam Arc. Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 and will adapt the Tri-Magic-Athalon Divine Visionary Final Exam Arc.

The live-action film will bring the franchise’s signature mix of comedy, fantasy, and superhuman strength to the big screen in March 2027.
