Netflix is developing a live-action series based on PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, better known as PUBG. According to Variety, Donald Glover will direct, write, executive produce, and star in the upcoming adaptation.
Glover, a two-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner known for Atlanta and Community, will be joined by his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover, who is attached as a writer and executive producer.
Donald and Stephen Glover Reunite for PUBG
The series will also be executive produced by Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, the entertainment-focused subsidiary of PUBG publisher KRAFTON.
The Glover brothers previously collaborated on FX’s acclaimed series Atlanta. Donald created and starred in the show, while Stephen served as a writer and executive producer throughout its four-season run.
Their involvement marks a notable creative team for Netflix’s adaptation of the popular battle royale game.
PUBG’s Global Success
KRAFTON originally released PUBG in 2017. Unlike many story-driven games, it does not have a fixed narrative. Instead, players are dropped onto one of several maps filled with weapons, vehicles, and other equipment, competing in a last-player-standing battle.
The game became a major hit shortly after launch, breaking multiple Guinness World Records and helping popularize the battle royale genre. Nearly a decade later, PUBG remains one of the world’s most popular video games, continuing to attract hundreds of thousands of active players daily.
Specific plot details for Netflix’s live-action series remain under wraps. Further information about its cast, setting, and release schedule has yet to be announced.
