Netflix Reportedly Developing a Live-Action Persona TV Series

Netflix is reportedly in the early stages of developing a live-action television series based on the popular Persona RPG franchise. According to a report from Variety, the project is still in its early development phase, with no story details, cast, or production schedule officially announced. However, the creative team behind the adaptation is already beginning to take shape.

The report states that Christopher Monfette has joined the project as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Monfette is best known for his work on acclaimed television series such as Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1.

The production also features an experienced lineup of executive producers. Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood from 21 Laps Entertainment, the studio behind Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, are attached to the project. Emily Feher will oversee development on behalf of 21 Laps, while Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen, along with Toru Nakahara representing Sega, will also serve as executive producers.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the live-action adaptation will follow the storyline of an existing Persona title or introduce an entirely original narrative. Fans are speculating whether the series could adapt the murder mystery of Persona 4, the adventures of the Phantom Thieves from Persona 5, or perhaps explore a brand-new story set within the Persona universe.

Originally launched in 1996 as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, Persona has grown into one of the world’s most successful RPG series. The franchise has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, earning praise for its unique blend of turn-based combat, social simulation, and psychological storytelling.

The announcement also comes during a particularly active period for the Persona franchise. Atlus recently confirmed that Persona 4 Revival, a full remake of the beloved classic, will launch on February 18, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, while also being available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

Meanwhile, Atlus has also confirmed that Persona 6, the next mainline entry in the long-running RPG series, is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Although Netflix has yet to officially reveal a release window, the reported live-action adaptation has already generated significant excitement among fans eager to see how one of gaming’s most iconic franchises will be brought to life in live-action form.
