Blue Archive Producer Wants to Expand Franchise With Manga, Novels, and New Game Genres

Blue Archive producer Yong-ha Kim has expressed Nexon’s enthusiasm for expanding the franchise following the company’s planned takeover of Japanese publishing operations. In a recent interview with Korean news outlet Game Focus, Kim discussed the intellectual property’s future and revealed several ideas for expanding the series beyond its existing mobile RPG.

Yostar recently announced that it would hand over the Japanese publishing rights for Blue Archive to Nexon, the game’s developer. The transition is scheduled for around January 2027, giving Nexon greater direct control over the game’s operations and future promotional activities in Japan.

According to Kim, Nexon has many plans it would like to explore for the franchise. One of the company’s goals is to develop Blue Archive into a broader multimedia property, potentially including manga, novels, and games across different genres. These projects could introduce the franchise to audiences who may not currently play the original mobile game.

Blue Archive Could Explore New Game Genres

Kim also expressed interest in exploring genres that differ from the existing game’s RPG format. Among the ideas he mentioned were a third-person shooter, a deserted-island survival game, and a simulation RPG featuring Blue Archive characters.

A third-person shooter has been a frequently requested concept among fans, making it one potential direction for future experimentation. However, Kim’s comments represent ideas rather than confirmed projects. Nexon has not announced development plans, release windows, or platforms for any of these proposed games.

Expanding into different genres could allow the company to explore the franchise’s characters and setting in new ways while reaching players with different gaming preferences.

Nexon Also Interested in Fareidolia

Beyond Blue Archive, Kim discussed his interest in developing Fareidolia, an upcoming 3D anime-style game from Nexon’s IO division that was previously known as Project RX.

The title is expected to deliver an experience distinct from Blue Archive. Although detailed gameplay information remains limited, its isekai setting and colorful cast of characters could provide opportunities for further expansion if the project develops into a larger multimedia franchise.

For now, there are no confirmed plans for additional media based on Fareidolia.

What Nexon’s Takeover Means for Blue Archive

Once the transition takes place, Nexon will directly manage development, live operations, publishing, and promotion for the Japanese version, aligning its responsibilities more closely with those it already handles for domestic and international releases.

The change gives Nexon greater control over how Blue Archive is marketed and potentially expanded in Japan, one of the franchise’s major markets. Nevertheless, fans should treat the proposed manga, novels, and new game genres as possibilities rather than officially announced products.

Kim’s comments suggest that Nexon is interested in building Blue Archive into a broader entertainment franchise, although concrete projects and their timelines have yet to be revealed.
