Kojima Productions has unveiled the first teaser trailer and additional details for Death Stranding Isolations, an upcoming anime adaptation set in the universe of Death Stranding. First announced in November 2025, the animated series is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Disney+ and other Disney streaming services in 2027.
Unlike Hideo Kojima’s original games, Death Stranding Isolations will introduce an entirely new story focusing on several characters with different backgrounds and perspectives following the catastrophic Death Stranding event. The series will feature traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, with Japanese studio E&H production handling its production.
A New Story Set After the Death Stranding
The story follows a young woman who chooses to live in isolation after the Death Stranding takes her mother’s life and leaves behind a massive crater. The disaster occurred when the dead entered the world of the living, triggering devastating explosions when the two worlds came into contact.
Following the catastrophe, many survivors were forced to live separately from one another. The young woman eventually embraces solitude rather than forming relationships with other people. However, an unexpected encounter gradually introduces her to a world that has changed beyond recognition.
The anime takes place in North America after Sam, the protagonist of the first Death Stranding game, successfully reconnects the continent through the Chiral Network. Although this network helped rebuild America, its influence also brought unforeseen consequences.
Beyond the young woman, the story will follow several other characters, including an elderly man who mysteriously connects people, a female soldier trapped in an endless cycle of warfare, and a young boy consumed by anger toward his own life. Each character follows a different path from Sam and his companions at Bridges.
Death Stranding Isolations Anime Staff
Takayuki Sano serves as director, while Tow Ubukata handles the screenplay and series composition. Original character designs are provided by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work in illustration and animation.
Meanwhile, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is involved as an executive producer through Kojima Productions.
Sano also expressed his sense of responsibility in adapting the franchise, emphasizing the importance of preserving Kojima’s ability to deliver meaningful experiences through his storytelling.
Death Stranding Isolations is scheduled to premiere in 2027 exclusively on Disney+ and other Disney streaming platforms. More details about its release schedule and additional cast members have yet to be announced.
