Microsoft has reportedly given Arkane Lyon an additional month to find a potential buyer or partner as the studio faces the threat of closure. The developer behind Dishonored and Deathloop is exploring acquisition opportunities, with more than 200 employees potentially at risk of losing their jobs if the search fails.
According to a report by Le Monde published on October 23, 2026, Arkane Lyon had initially been given until November 13 to find a buyer. Microsoft has since confirmed to PC Gamer that discussions are ongoing, with the deadline now extended to mid-December.
The additional time is intended to allow Microsoft to explore different options for the studio’s future, including finding a partner willing to help complete games currently in development. The company also stated that it would continue providing updates to employee representatives throughout the process.
French Law Provides Additional Time for a Potential Sale
The extended deadline is linked to France’s Florange law, which requires qualifying companies with more than 1,000 employees to seek potential buyers before closing certain facilities.
The extension gives Arkane Lyon more time to pursue a possible acquisition or partnership, but it does not guarantee that a deal will be reached. Microsoft has also emphasized that the additional period is limited, leaving the studio’s future dependent on the outcome of ongoing discussions.
As of the latest reports, Microsoft has not publicly identified any potential buyer or confirmed that an acquisition agreement is close to completion.
Marvel’s Blade Development Raises Concerns
One of the biggest questions surrounding Arkane Lyon’s future is the status of Marvel’s Blade, an action game announced at The Game Awards 2023.
According to a representative of the Printemps Ecologique union, which represents Arkane employees, development of the game was reportedly approaching completion. The union has expressed concern that the project could go unreleased after years of work if the studio closes without finding a partner to continue development.
However, the game’s current development status and release prospects have not been officially confirmed. It also remains unclear whether a potential buyer would agree to continue working on the project.
Arkane Lyon’s Future Remains Uncertain
Arkane Lyon is known for games including Dishonored 2, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and Deathloop, which received critical acclaim following its release in 2021.
The situation is separate from the closure of Arkane Austin in 2024, when Microsoft shut down the Texas-based studio amid broader changes to its gaming division.
With the deadline now extended to mid-December, Arkane Lyon has additional time to seek a buyer or development partner that could preserve the studio’s operations and potentially keep Marvel’s Blade moving toward release.
For now, the outcome remains uncertain. The coming weeks could prove decisive for the studio’s employees, its ongoing projects, and the future of one of France’s established game development teams.
