Anime fans will soon have a dedicated destination on PlayStation 5, as Sony Interactive Entertainment and Crunchyroll have announced plans to create a new anime-focused hub for the console. The upcoming feature is designed to help players discover anime series, characters, franchises, and games inspired by Japanese animation.
The hub does not yet have an official name, but Sony and Crunchyroll confirmed that it is scheduled to launch in spring 2027. More information about its features and availability is expected to be revealed ahead of the launch.
The new destination will also provide users with convenient access to Crunchyroll, strengthening the connection between the streaming platform and the PlayStation ecosystem. Rather than focusing exclusively on anime streaming, the hub will bring together anime and gaming content, allowing players to discover games connected to franchises they already enjoy while also finding new series and characters.
The initiative builds on Crunchyroll’s existing presence on PlayStation 5. The streaming service already offers a dedicated PS5 application where subscribers can watch a wide range of anime, including newly released episodes, movies, classic series, and other popular titles.

Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll, described the announcement as another step in the company’s ongoing partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. He emphasized the importance of reaching anime fans through platforms where they already spend their time, building on Crunchyroll’s existing membership and PlayStation-related initiatives.
The upcoming hub also reflects Sony’s broader efforts to expand anime-related entertainment across its gaming ecosystem. The company has increasingly connected PlayStation with anime and Japanese entertainment, including the previously announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series.
The Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is scheduled to arrive on Crunchyroll in 2027, further highlighting the growing relationship between Sony’s gaming properties and the anime industry.
With the new PS5 anime hub planned for spring 2027, Sony and Crunchyroll are looking to create a more integrated space where players can move between anime and gaming content. More details about the platform, its features, and supported content are expected to be announced closer to launch.
