Arknights: Endfield Apologizes to Korean Players Over Controversial Pinch Gesture Animation

Arknights: Endfield developer Hypergryph has issued an official apology to the South Korean community following concerns over a character animation featuring a controversial “pinch gesture.” The statement was published through the game’s official Naver Lounge, addressing feedback from players who found the animation inappropriate.

According to the development team, they have received numerous reports and concerns regarding the gesture used by several Operators. The developers apologized for causing discomfort among players and confirmed that the issue has been forwarded to the relevant team for an internal review. They are currently evaluating whether adjustments should be made to the affected character animations and expressions.

Hypergryph emphasized that every character animation in Arknights: Endfield is created based on artistic direction, character concepts, and natural movements. The studio stated that the animation was never intended to convey any hidden message or political meaning, and that its inclusion was purely part of the game’s creative development process.

The developer also reaffirmed its commitment to listening to community feedback and improving the overall player experience. While the review is ongoing, the team once again apologized for the concerns raised and asked players for their understanding as they continue evaluating the situation.

The controversy stems from the fact that the pinch gesture has become a sensitive symbol in South Korea. Over the past several years, the gesture has been associated by some groups with a controversial feminist symbol interpreted by critics as mocking men. As a result, similar gestures appearing in games, advertisements, or other media have repeatedly sparked debates within the Korean gaming community, even when developers insist there was no such intention.

Although no final decision has been announced regarding possible animation changes, Hypergryph’s public response reflects its willingness to address community concerns while maintaining that the original animation was created solely for artistic purposes. Further updates are expected once the internal review has been completed.
