Blue Archive Japan Will End Yostar Publishing Partnership in January 2027

Blue Archive has announced a major change to its Japanese server operations, with developer Nexon set to take over publishing and management responsibilities from Yostar. The news was revealed during a special Japanese broadcast held over the weekend, with the transition scheduled for around January 2027.

The change will apply exclusively to the Japanese version of the game. The global version will continue to be published by Yostar, and no announcement has indicated that its publishing arrangements will change.

Although the announcement has prompted speculation among international players about whether the global server could eventually undergo a similar transition, there is currently no confirmation of such plans. The Japanese and global versions operate under separate arrangements, meaning the change in Japan does not automatically signal a wider restructuring.

What the Publisher Change Means for Blue Archive Fans

For global players, the immediate impact is expected to be limited. However, the transition could have implications for the game’s merchandise operations in Japan.

Yostar has helped make official Blue Archive merchandise accessible to fans, including through its official merchandise store in Akihabara, Tokyo. With Nexon preparing to assume management of the Japanese version, players may wonder whether existing merchandise distribution arrangements will continue in their current form.

No specific changes to the store or merchandise availability have been confirmed, so fans will need to wait for further announcements before drawing conclusions.

Yostar Has Previously Handed Games Back to Their Developers

Yostar’s departure from Blue Archive‘s Japanese publishing operations would not be the first time a game has moved away from the company.

Several titles previously associated with Yostar have undergone similar changes. Girls’ Frontline, for example, saw a change in its publishing arrangements in Japan before its official release, while Smilegate took over full publishing responsibilities for Epic Seven in 2022.

Meanwhile, Yostar continues to publish Arknights, but developer Hypergryph chose not to involve the company in marketing for Arknights: Endfield.

These examples highlight how publishing partnerships can evolve as developers adjust their business strategies and take greater control over their intellectual properties.

For now, Blue Archive players outside Japan have little reason to expect an immediate change. Nexon’s planned takeover concerns the Japanese server, while Yostar remains responsible for the global version. Any future changes to the international publishing arrangement would require a separate announcement.
