Japanese singer Ado has revealed that she currently has no intention of publicly showing her real identity or face.
Ado explained that she feels comfortable continuing her career while remaining anonymous, maintaining the utaite-style image that has become closely associated with her music career.
According to Ado, the mystery surrounding her identity is part of what makes her artistic style unique, and she personally enjoys performing in that way.
“Regarding the possibility of revealing my identity to the public someday, I’m not thinking about that at all right now. I enjoy singing in the utaite style, keeping my identity hidden and remaining a mystery.”
She also jokingly added that she might only reconsider the idea if there were ever a law requiring singers to reveal their faces publicly.
“I think I’ll continue this way unless the country somehow passes a law requiring you to show your face while singing. [laughs] In that case, I might have to rethink it.”
Since her explosive rise in popularity, Ado has become widely recognized for maintaining strict anonymity while delivering powerful vocal performances through animated music videos, live concerts with silhouette staging, and stylized visual presentations.
Her approach reflects the long-standing culture of utaite performers in Japan, where some singers choose to prioritize artistic identity and vocal expression over personal celebrity exposure.
Many fans online reacted positively to the interview, saying the anonymity has become one of the defining aspects of Ado’s appeal and artistic atmosphere. Others noted that her success proves a musician can still achieve massive global popularity without relying heavily on personal image or public-facing celebrity culture.
Over the past few years, Ado has grown into one of Japan’s most internationally recognized modern singers, especially after her involvement with One Piece Film: Red and multiple chart-topping music releases.
