SEGA has released a new character video introducing Lionel Rafale, a young martial artist who will appear in the story of VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS. The game is scheduled to launch in 2027.
The video’s description opens with the French phrase “Les jeux sont faits, rien ne va plus” and introduces Lionel as a mysterious fighter who has arrived in the city of Vilasapara. A highly skilled martial artist, Lionel is capable of defeating protagonist Cielo in a street fight and is described as a formidable force.
Explore the Fighting City of Vilasapara
Vilasapara is a fictional city in Southeast Asia that serves as the setting for the game’s interconnected stories. Known as a fighting town, it features several distinct districts, ranging from a walled city center to entertainment and resort areas.
As players explore these locations, they will encounter side stories and quests tied to the people who live in the city, offering a closer look at its residents and their struggles.
A Cinematic Story Built Around Four Protagonists
The main story follows four protagonists whose convictions and pasts collide in a life-changing adventure. VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS aims to combine the series’ signature deep, fluid combat with the cinematic storytelling associated with RGG Studio.
Alongside online matches, Story Mode will feature dramatic encounters, including battles against multiple opponents and boss fights. SEGA describes the experience as a cinematic single-player adventure with narrative-driven gameplay, while retaining the series’ trademark versus battles.
SEGA has emphasized that VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS is neither a remake nor simply a nostalgic return to the franchise. Instead, the company describes it as the next evolution of Virtua Fighter.
More details about the game are expected ahead of its planned 2027 launch.
