About From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman
The anime adapts the light novel series written by Shigeru Sagazaki, titled From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now and They Won’t Leave Me Alone. The novels feature illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima.
The story follows Beryl Gardinant, a modest swordsmanship instructor living in the countryside. Despite his humble lifestyle, Beryl possesses exceptional combat skills developed over years of training and experience.
His quiet life changes when former students, who have since grown into accomplished adventurers and influential figures, return to reconnect with him. As Beryl becomes involved in their affairs, his abilities attract increasing attention and lead him into challenges far beyond his expectations.
The original story debuted on the user-generated fiction website Shosetsuka ni Naro in November 2020. Square Enix picked up the series in April 2021 and began publishing it under its SQEX Novel label.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Kazuki Sato has been serialized in Akita Shoten’s Dokodemo Young Champion since August 2021. J-Novel Club publishes the light novels in English, while Yen Press handles the manga’s English release.
With Season 3 now confirmed, fans can look forward to another chapter in Beryl’s adventures as the former countryside instructor continues to demonstrate the strength behind his unassuming appearance.
