One of the biggest surprises surrounding the announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was its confirmed release on Nintendo Switch 2.
The launch marks the return of the Call of Duty franchise to Nintendo hardware for the first time in more than a decade. The last entry released on a Nintendo platform was Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U in 2013.
According to Jack O’Hara, Head of Studio at Infinity Ward, bringing Call of Duty back to Nintendo is a particularly meaningful milestone.
O’Hara revealed that he previously worked on several Call of Duty projects for both Nintendo DS and Wii U, making the franchise’s return to Nintendo platforms a special moment for him personally.
Perhaps the most encouraging news for fans is that the development team reportedly encountered very few issues while bringing the game to Switch 2.
According to O’Hara, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been running smoothly on Nintendo’s new hardware since the early stages of development. He also stated that the team has already conducted cross-platform multiplayer tests between Switch 2, consoles, and PC platforms without major technical problems.
The comments have helped ease concerns among players who were wondering whether the Nintendo version would face performance limitations compared to its PlayStation, Xbox, and PC counterparts.
Cross-platform support is expected to be one of the game’s key features, allowing players across different platforms to compete together in multiplayer matches.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is currently scheduled to launch simultaneously on:
Nintendo Switch 2
PlayStation 5
Xbox Series X and Series S
and PC
The game is set to release on October 23, marking the long-awaited return of one of gaming’s biggest shooter franchises to Nintendo hardware.
