About Date A Live
Date A Live is based on the light novel series written by Koshi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. Published by Fujimi Shobo from 2012 to 2020, the series concluded with 22 volumes.
The franchise received its first television anime adaptation in 2013, produced by AIC PLUS+ and directed by Keitaro Motonaga. Later seasons were handled by Production IMS, J.C.Staff, and GEEKTOYS, with the latter studio producing the two most recent television seasons.
The fifth season, Date A Live V, premiered in spring 2024 and received recognition from fans in several seasonal anime polls. Kurumi Tokisaki was voted Best Girl of Spring 2024, while the season’s opening and ending themes and several cast members also earned awards.
Yen Press publishes the original light novels in English, while Crunchyroll streams the anime adaptation.
The story follows Shido Itsuka, an ordinary high school student who encounters a mysterious girl following a devastating spacequake. He eventually learns that she is a Spirit, a supernatural being associated with these disasters. Recruited by his sister Kotori, Shido must seal the Spirits’ powers to protect humanity. However, there is an unusual condition: he must make each Spirit fall in love with him.
With DATE A LIVE F: Last Date scheduled to arrive in Japanese theaters on March 26, 2027, fans can look forward to the next major chapter in Shido’s story and his relationship with the Spirits.
