The long-running anime Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed in some regions, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a special original episode. Titled “The Counterfeit Case of Ultra 30,” the upcoming episode will feature an extended runtime of two hours.
The special episode is scheduled to air on September 25, 2026, as part of NTV’s Friday Roadshow. Its extended broadcast is expected to serve as a major celebration for one of Japan’s most enduring mystery anime series, which has continued to attract audiences for three decades.
Detective Conan originally premiered during the Winter 1996 anime season. Since then, the series has followed the adventures of Conan Edogawa as he solves numerous criminal cases while secretly searching for a way to return to his original body. The anime, produced by TMS Entertainment, has already surpassed 1,000 episodes and continues to air.
The story begins with Shinichi Kudo, a highly talented high school detective known for his remarkable ability to solve complicated mysteries. While investigating the activities of a mysterious group, Shinichi encounters two members of the Black Organization.
The situation takes a dangerous turn when Shinichi is attacked and forced to take a mysterious drug being developed by a scientist. Rather than killing him, the drug causes his body to shrink dramatically, leaving him with the appearance of a young child.
Believing that Shinichi has been eliminated, the Black Organization members leave the scene. However, Shinichi survives and soon realizes that revealing his true identity could put him in even greater danger. To protect himself and continue investigating the organization, he adopts the name Conan Edogawa.
Living under his new identity, Conan continues solving cases while secretly gathering information about the Black Organization. At the same time, he searches for clues that could help him restore his body to its original form.
After three decades on television, Detective Conan remains an important part of the anime landscape. The upcoming “The Counterfeit Case of Ultra 30” will add another special chapter to its long-running history, with fans now looking forward to the two-hour mystery arriving in September 2026.
