About Takopi’s Original Sin

Takopi’s Original Sin, also known as Takopi no Genzai, is a manga written and illustrated by Taizan 5. It was serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform from December 2021 to March 2022 and collected into two volumes. VIZ Media publishes the manga in English.

The story begins when Takopi, a cheerful alien from a distant planet, arrives on Earth with a mission to spread happiness. He soon encounters Shizuka, a depressed fourth-grade student whose troubled life leaves her struggling to find reasons to smile.

Determined to help her, Takopi uses advanced alien gadgets to improve her situation. However, his limited understanding of human emotions and the consequences of his actions leads to increasingly tragic outcomes.

As Takopi attempts to understand Shizuka and the people around her, the story explores bullying, trauma, family problems, and the difficult consequences of trying to help someone without fully understanding their circumstances.

The anime adaptation brought the manga’s emotionally intense narrative to a wider audience, contrasting Takopi’s cheerful appearance with the darker realities faced by its human characters.

With Takopi’s Original Sin -Thank You, See You Tomorrow- arriving in Japanese theaters on November 27, 2026, audiences can look forward to a theatrical re-edit featuring new scenes and Tele’s original theme song.
