The anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has officially received its premiere schedule in Japan. Titled Sekiro: No Defeat, the anime is set to begin screening on September 4 through a special three-week theatrical event.
The announcement was made jointly by Kadokawa Corporation, Crunchyroll, Qzil.la, and ARCH, alongside the release of the anime’s official main visual.
For international audiences, Sekiro: No Defeat will stream exclusively through Crunchyroll outside of Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. However, a global streaming release date has not yet been officially announced.
The anime will once again take viewers back to the war-torn land of Ashina, where political conflict and warfare continue to threaten the region. Following the bloody coup led by Isshin Ashina two decades earlier, a new crisis emerges as the Interior Ministry begins advancing toward Ashina.
Faced with the collapse of his homeland, Genichiro Ashina reportedly seeks forbidden power in a desperate attempt to save the country. Meanwhile, Sekiro and the Divine Heir once again become central figures within the story.
The adaptation is expected to recreate many of the most iconic moments from the original game while also expanding the emotional relationship between Sekiro and his master. Themes such as loyalty, sacrifice, death, and redemption are said to remain at the heart of the anime, preserving the dark and emotional tone that defined the original title.
Since its initial announcement, Sekiro: No Defeat has become one of the most highly anticipated video game anime adaptations among fans.
Originally released in 2019 by FromSoftware, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice received widespread praise for its intense sword combat, unique posture system, and dark fantasy setting inspired by Japan’s Sengoku era. The game later went on to win Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2019.
With the official release window now confirmed, fans can finally prepare to return to the brutal world of Ashina once again — this time in anime form.
