Ballistic Moon, the UK-based game development studio renowned for its recent work on the Until Dawn remake, is reportedly on the verge of closing its doors. Multiple sources indicate that the studio has undergone substantial layoffs and is now “effectively closed,” with only a few key personnel remaining.
In September 2024, Ballistic Moon announced a significant reduction in staff, citing the challenging landscape of the gaming industry. The studio expressed deep regret over the decision to “significantly scale down our team to secure the future of our studio,” following the development of the Until Dawn remake for PS5 and PC.
Despite these measures, reports suggest that further layoffs occurred in December 2024, leaving only the studio’s founders and possibly a handful of employees. Insider sources have claimed that “the studio has effectively closed now,” with no staff available to address post-launch support or patches for the Until Dawn remake.
Efforts to secure additional funding or new publishing deals have reportedly been unsuccessful. Discussions with Sony regarding potential projects did not come to fruition, and attempts to pitch new projects to other publishers have also failed.
As of now, Ballistic Moon has not issued an official statement regarding the current status of the studio or its future plans. The gaming community awaits further updates on the fate of the developers behind the acclaimed Until Dawn remake.
