In a rather unexpected move, Scurge: Hive—an action-adventure title originally released in 2006 for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance—is making its way to modern gaming platforms. Nearly two decades after its initial launch, the cult classic is set to reach a whole new audience this year.

Developed by Orbital Media and published by SouthPeak Interactive, Scurge: Hive first hit the shelves in October 2006. Though it had a modest reception at launch and didn’t spawn any sequels or ports, the game quietly developed a dedicated fanbase over the years. For almost 20 years, the title remained exclusive to its original Nintendo platforms—until now.

Ratalaika Games, known for re-releasing classic titles like 2024’s Aero the Acro-Bat, officially announced the comeback via their Twitter account. Scurge: Hive will soon be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This move promises to breathe new life into the beloved, yet overlooked, Nintendo DS classic.

Players will once again take on the role of Jenosa Arma, a bounty hunter investigating a remote science facility overtaken by a parasitic virus called the Scurge. Equipped with a special protective suit that slows but doesn’t cure the infection, Jenosa must carefully balance combat, platforming, and puzzle-solving while managing a steadily rising infection meter.

The re-release brings renewed excitement to fans of retro action-adventure games and highlights the enduring appeal of hidden gems from the Nintendo DS era. Keep an eye out for more updates as Scurge: Hive prepares to reintroduce its tense gameplay and unique storyline to gamers old and new in 2025.
