In a new update shared via social media, Twitch has extended the deadline for content creators to export Highlights and Uploads that exceed a planned 100-hour limit. The initial deadline of April 19 has now been pushed to May 19, 2025, giving streamers an additional month to save their content before it risks deletion.
Why This Matters
Twitch’s upcoming 100-hour content retention policy will limit how much Highlight and Upload content a creator can store on the platform. Any content exceeding that limit will be automatically deleted after May 19 unless exported.
Originally, the deletion was set for April 19, but after community feedback and planning updates, Twitch extended the timeline and added quality-of-life tools to help with the process.
New Tools for Easier Export
To make exporting easier and faster, Twitch is rolling out new features by April 14, including:
-
Increased bulk export support: Export up to 100 videos at once, up from the previous limit of 20.
-
Improved download speeds: Faster downloads make saving content locally or on other platforms much easier.
These features aim to help creators manage their libraries and avoid losing valuable content during the transition.
Monetization Still Evolving
This update comes during a significant year for Twitch. Back in February, Twitch announced plans to let new streamers earn Bits, accept subscriptions, and collect ad revenue—benefits previously limited to Twitch Affiliates and Partners.
However, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy clarified that this monetization change won’t take effect until sometime in 2025, with no confirmed rollout date yet.
What Creators Should Do Now
If you have Highlights or Uploads that may be affected:
-
Visit your Video Producer in the Creator Dashboard.
-
Select and export up to 100 videos at once.
-
Consider transferring them to YouTube or other platforms for additional monetization opportunities.
-
Plan to stay under the 100-hour limit moving forward to avoid content loss.
Twitch also emphasized that the deletion process is a one-time adjustment. Once the limit is enforced, content above the 100-hour threshold will be removed unless already saved externally.
Final Thoughts
This update offers both relief and urgency. While creators now have a bit more time and better tools to save their content, the message is clear: Twitch is moving forward with storage limits, and action is required.
Make sure to take advantage of the extended May 19 deadline, bulk export, and faster downloads before it’s too late.
