Fans of the RE franchise have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the iconic survival horror series. However, RE 9 has remained elusive, with Capcom staying tight-lipped about its development progress. Now, a credible insider has finally revealed why the game is taking longer than expected—and the reason might surprise you.
According to industry insider Dusk Golem, known for reliable leaks in the Resident Evil community, the delay is due to Capcom’s focus on quality and innovation. The developers are reportedly pushing the RE Engine to new limits, aiming to deliver a groundbreaking open-world experience that surpasses previous titles. This ambitious shift requires more development time, especially as the team is working to optimize the game for next-gen consoles.
(2/2) is taking so long is because it’s like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7. It’s not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it’s trying new things & very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.

Additionally, Capcom is said to be prioritizing internal testing and polish to avoid bugs or gameplay issues at launch. After the success of Resident Evil Village, expectations are sky-high, and the team wants to ensure Resident Evil 9 lives up to the hype.
Dusk Golem also mentioned that Capcom had initially planned for a 2024 release, but internal delays have pushed the expected release window to late 2025 or early 2026.
While the wait may be longer than fans hoped, it appears Capcom is determined to deliver a top-tier horror experience worth the delay. Stay tuned with us for more updates as development progresses.
