La Quimera, the highly anticipated first-person shooter from Reburn, the rebranded team of former Metro developers, has been delayed at the last minute. Originally scheduled for release on April 25, the sci-fi FPS missed its launch window, and as of now, no new release date has been announced.
La Quimera’s Last-Minute Setback
Announced just two months ago, La Quimera quickly captured attention with its bold futuristic vision set in a fictional Latin America in the year 2064. As Reburn’s debut project, expectations were high — fueled further by an impressive closed beta held just two weeks prior to the planned launch.
However, the game’s momentum stumbled when CEO Dmytro Lymar released an official statement citing “unforeseen challenges” as the reason for the delay. In his announcement, Lymar referenced logistical difficulties in the final stages of production, worsened by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine where Reburn is headquartered.
“We are trying our best to address the matters as quickly as possible, while also navigating the circumstances we’re faced with here in Ukraine,” Lymar explained.
Negative Early Reviews Raise Questions
Adding more complexity to La Quimera’s delayed release, early reviews started trickling out — and they weren’t promising. With a Metacritic average currently sitting at 4/10 from initial critics, the game has been criticized for its short playtime (only around five hours across three missions), lackluster storytelling, stiff voice acting, and a notable number of technical issues. Although it’s not confirmed if these negative reviews directly caused the postponement, the timing raises speculation that Reburn might be considering a larger overhaul to address early feedback before a wider launch.
What’s Next for La Quimera?
At this point, Reburn has not provided a new timeline for when La Quimera will launch. The studio promised to keep fans updated via official social media channels. Given the turbulent start, many gamers are now wondering whether Reburn will take the extra time needed to polish and refine the experience — potentially turning La Quimera into the sci-fi shooter fans hoped for.
