Following the incredible success of 2017’s Hollow Knight, developer Team Cherry announced a sequel in 2019. While the reveal trailer showcased a similarly stunning world, Hollow Knight: Silksong immediately stood out thanks to its new protagonist—Hornet, a familiar figure from the first game. With eye-catching locales, haunting music, and promises of tougher bosses, the game has steadily built up hype in the indie scene. Yet, six years later, fans are still waiting for its release.
Fortunately, hope was rekindled during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, where a brief new clip confirmed Silksong is still on track for a 2025 release.
Now, that excitement has been fueled even more. Some new screenshots quietly dropped on the Nintendo Japan website, giving fans a fresh look at Hornet’s long-awaited journey. Spotted by Hollow Knight expert and indie developer mossbag69 on Twitter, the update includes three new images from the game, each showcasing areas first revealed in the original 2019 announcement trailer.

According to mossbag69, the screenshots feature the city of Bellhart, the intense Lace boss fight, and the mysterious starting room. These locations have clearly evolved since their first appearances. The Bellhart image, for instance, now features a slightly blurred background and new bug designs populating the scene, offering a subtle but noticeable aesthetic refinement. While the Lace fight and the starting room were also seen in later promotional material (like PlayStation’s updates), these new shots mark their most recent revision.
Team Cherry still hasn’t confirmed an exact release date, but with Nintendo promoting the game and fresh media surfacing, it’s clear Silksong is alive and inching closer to launch. For longtime fans, every new detail adds fuel to the fire—and these updated visuals are a stunning reminder of what’s to come.
