Dark Souls Remastered now supports seamless co-op gameplay, thanks to a newly released mod by renowned modder Yui. Within just 72 hours of release, the add-on amassed over 12,000 downloads, as thousands of players returned to Lordran to experience the game in a whole new way.

Yui, who previously launched a seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 3 in February 2025, has now delivered a game-changing upgrade for the original Dark Souls Remastered. The mod was released on April 10 via Nexus Mods and quickly gained traction among the Soulsborne community.

Persistent Co-Op, No Summons Needed

While players have always had the option to summon others for boss fights, this mod eliminates the traditional limitations of Dark Souls’ multiplayer system. With Yui’s mod, players can now remain in a party even after dying or defeating a boss, effectively turning the game into one continuous co-op session from start to finish.

There’s no need to summon players for each area or reset after every major encounter. Friends can explore freely, fight together, and share the entire Dark Souls experience without frustrating disconnections.

Balanced for Multiplayer

To ensure balance, the mod activates enemy scaling across all areas, not just boss arenas. This change reflects the increased ease of progressing with allies. Still, those looking to make the game easier can disable enemy scaling via the ds1sc_settings.ini file included in the mod’s folder.

In addition, players can disable invasions entirely, transforming the game into a purely PvE experience — a welcome feature for those looking to focus solely on cooperative adventuring.

Safe to Use and Separate from Official Servers

The mod runs on a peer-to-peer system and does not connect to FromSoftware’s servers. It uses separate save files, which means modded progress won’t interfere with your vanilla game. That also makes it safe to use — there’s no risk of bans since it doesn’t interact with the game’s official online ecosystem.

What’s Next for Yui?

Yui has not yet announced their next project, but with a growing list of impressive multiplayer mods under their belt, many are eagerly watching to see what they’ll tackle next. For now, players can enjoy the ultimate co-op experience in Dark Souls Remastered — a game-changing update for one of the most beloved action RPGs of all time.
