Chrono Trigger Remake May Have Just Leaked

Yuji Horii speaking at Comic-Con, possibly leaking Chrono Trigger Remake

It seems a Chrono Trigger Remake might be more than just a fan wish list item—it may have just been accidentally leaked by none other than the game’s legendary creator, Yuji Horii, during a Comic-Con panel in Naples.

🔥 A Slipped Secret?

According to multiple Reddit users who were in attendance, Horii may have accidentally confirmed that a remake of Chrono Trigger is in development. The incident allegedly took place during a joint panel featuring Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest discussions.

Reddit user LawfulnessSure125 referenced a claim from another forum, explaining that Horii casually mentioned a Chrono Trigger remake, only to have someone whisper in his ear shortly after. His reaction? Covering his mouth “as if he’d just said something he shouldn’t have.”

Another user, TheFishyOne, who claims to have been there in person, said the audience erupted in cheers at the mention. When the translator asked Horii for confirmation, he reportedly replied, “You heard nothing.”

While these claims are currently unverified, the gaming community is buzzing with speculation—and cautious optimism.

🎮 Why This Is a Big Deal

Chrono Trigger is often hailed as one of the greatest RPGs of all time, thanks to its revolutionary combat system, rich time-travel narrative, and iconic collaboration between industry giants like Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii, and Akira Toriyama.

Despite its popularity, Chrono Trigger has received very little attention from Square Enix in recent years. The last notable release was the 2018 PC port, which faced criticism for its lackluster enhancements. Fans have long called for a remake that treats Chrono Trigger with the same reverence given to the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest remakes.

Square Enix has been on a roll lately, revamping its classic JRPGs with modern visuals, orchestral soundtracks, and improved gameplay mechanics. That makes now the perfect time to bring Chrono Trigger into the modern era.

⏳ What Comes Next?

If the leak is real, Square Enix may be preparing an announcement for a major gaming event—possibly Summer Game Fest 2025 or the Tokyo Game Show. Of course, until official confirmation is provided, it’s wise to treat this as a rumor. Still, the combination of Horii’s “slip,” fan accounts, and Square Enix’s current remake strategy makes this feel more plausible than most leaks.

A Chrono Trigger Remake has been a dream for decades. With fan enthusiasm at an all-time high and a potential leak from Yuji Horii himself, this might be the moment Chrono Trigger fans have been waiting for. Until we hear more—officially or otherwise—stay tuned. You definitely didn’t hear this from us.
