Some gamers believe that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 may be getting an upgraded release on the Nintendo Switch 2. The speculation began after fans spotted a Monolith Soft job posting on social media that featured a GIF of a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 cutscene—but with noticeably different lighting and improved background details compared to the original 2017 release.

A Potential Switch 2 Upgrade

The subtle graphical changes in the GIF have led many to wonder if Monolith Soft is quietly preparing a remastered version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Nintendo’s new hardware. If true, the update could feature improved visuals, performance boosts, and potentially quality-of-life enhancements designed for the more powerful Switch 2.

Why the Rumor Makes Sense

The Xenoblade Chronicles series has been a major JRPG staple for Nintendo since its debut in 2010, with four mainline entries released so far. Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which launched in 2017, became one of the most successful entries, selling over 2.7 million copies worldwide.

More recently, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was re-released for the Switch in March 2025 with upgraded graphics and included DLC, giving credibility to the idea that Nintendo and Monolith Soft are interested in updating older games for modern players.

What Fans Can Expect

If Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does get a Switch 2 release, it may follow the pricing trend of other upgraded titles, costing more than the original Switch edition. There’s also a possibility of a Definitive Edition, which could bundle the main game with the well-received Torna – The Golden Country expansion from 2018, offering new and returning players a massive RPG package.

Still Just a Rumor

For now, Nintendo and Monolith Soft have not officially confirmed a Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Fans should take this rumor with caution, though the evidence from the job posting and Nintendo’s track record with re-releases makes the idea seem plausible.

With over 100 hours of content and a rich world to explore, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 remains a fan-favorite RPG. A remaster on Switch 2 could give a new generation of players the perfect chance to experience one of Monolith Soft’s most iconic adventures.
