Fans eagerly awaiting the return of a sci-fi horror classic will have to wait a bit longer—Nightdive Studios has announced a delay for the console versions of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Originally scheduled to release on June 26, 2025, across all major platforms, the remastered title will now launch only on PC on that date.
According to an official post shared by Nightdive on social media, the developers “encountered issues” that have temporarily blocked the game’s rollout on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
“We’re working hard to resolve these issues and expect the console versions to be ready during the first two weeks of July,” the studio wrote.
PC Release Still On Track
While the news is disappointing for console players, PC gamers can still look forward to the game launching as planned on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Humble Bundle on June 26. The remaster brings upgraded visuals, improved audio, enhanced performance, and modern quality-of-life features to the cult classic.
A Legacy Worth Preserving
The System Shock franchise began in 1994 and quickly became a benchmark for immersive sci-fi storytelling. System Shock 2, released in 1999, cemented its place in gaming history with its innovative mix of survival horror, RPG elements, and an iconic AI antagonist—SHODAN.
The remaster, originally revealed as System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition back in 2019, has evolved into a full-blown 25th Anniversary release. After years of anticipation, this update is poised to introduce a new generation of players to the terrifying corridors of the Von Braun.
What to Expect Next
Nightdive has promised that the delay will only last a few weeks, and fans can expect more updates in early July. The studio emphasized its goal of delivering a stable and polished experience across all platforms, even if it means pushing back the console versions slightly.
Stay tuned to Nightdive Studios’ channels for the latest developments—and PC players, prepare to dive back into the void on June 26.
