Electronic Arts has officially announced that Skate will launch in early access on September 16, 2025, across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App. This long-awaited entry is a free-to-play sequel to the iconic skateboarding franchise, with development led by Full Circle, a studio founded by EA in 2020 specifically for this reboot.
The Skate early access release date comes more than 15 years after the last mainline entry in the series. While the game isn’t publicly available yet, fans have seen glimpses through pre-alpha playtests, trailers, and leaks that highlighted its evolving gameplay, customization systems, and massive soundtrack of over 100 songs.
A Living, Online Skateboarding Sandbox
Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, Skate has been described as an “ever-evolving online skateboarding sandbox.” The city acts as a shared multiplayer world where up to 150 skaters can explore, perform tricks, and build their own spots. Returning players will be glad to hear the beloved “Flick-It” control system is back, alongside new moves like wallies, slappies, and firecrackers for added depth.
The game runs on EA’s Frostbite engine, delivering realistic physics and fluid animations that aim to capture the spirit of skateboarding culture.
Free-to-Play with Cross-Play and Cross-Progression
At launch, Skate will be free-to-play and will support both cross-platform play and cross-progression. This means players can skate with friends regardless of system and carry their progress across multiple platforms seamlessly.
Following a seasonal content model, Skate will receive updates every three months featuring new events, cosmetics, and challenges. EA and Full Circle promise that this approach will keep the game fresh while fostering a tight-knit online community of skaters.
Countdown to September 16
With its combination of nostalgic mechanics and modern live-service design, Skate’s early access debut has the potential to revitalize the franchise for longtime fans and newcomers alike. After years of anticipation, the September 16, 2025 release date is now locked in — and the wait to drop into San Vansterdam is almost over.
