Scalebound, the ambitious action RPG from PlatinumGames, was one of the most anticipated Xbox exclusives before its sudden cancellation in 2017. However, years later, director Hideki Kamiya has expressed his desire to bring the game back—and he’s calling on Xbox boss Phil Spencer to make it happen.
Kamiya’s Plea for a Second Chance
In a recent interview, Hideki Kamiya openly acknowledged his regret over Scalebound’s cancellation and took responsibility for the project’s struggles. Despite this, he remains hopeful that the game could be revived with the help of Microsoft.
“I’m serious,” Kamiya stated. “Phil, let’s talk!” His direct appeal to Phil Spencer has reignited speculation and excitement among fans who never gave up on the dream of seeing Scalebound come to life.

Will Xbox Give Scalebound Another Shot?
Phil Spencer previously mentioned that Scalebound’s cancellation was a tough decision, but he hasn’t ruled out potential revivals of past projects. With Xbox now expanding its focus on exclusives and Game Pass content, a Scalebound comeback could align with Microsoft’s long-term strategy.
As the gaming industry evolves, the demand for unique action RPGs remains strong. Scalebound’s mix of dragon-based combat and cooperative gameplay was ahead of its time—could this be the perfect moment for a second chance?
Fans Await Microsoft’s Response
While there’s no official confirmation from Xbox, Kamiya’s passionate plea has certainly put the spotlight back on Scalebound. Fans are now waiting to see if Phil Spencer and Microsoft will respond.
