In a strategic move to bolster its development capabilities, Rockstar Games has acquired Sydney-based studio Video Games Deluxe, rebranding it as Rockstar Australia. This acquisition solidifies a longstanding partnership between the two companies and positions Rockstar to enhance its global development network.
Video Games Deluxe, founded in 2013 by Brendan McNamara—known for his work on L.A. Noire—has collaborated with Rockstar on several notable projects. These include the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files, and more recently, upgrades to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for various platforms.
Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia.” McNamara echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”
