Roblox Raises Age Limit for Restricted Games

Roblox is making major changes to its adult-oriented content policies, including raising the minimum required age for viewing “Restricted” experiences from 17 to 18. The update comes after a wave of child safety concerns and a recent lawsuit that put the platform under scrutiny.

Roblox Faces Child Safety Lawsuit in Louisiana

In mid-August 2025, the state of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against Roblox, alleging that the company failed to protect millions of underage users from predators and explicit content. Roblox Corporation rejected the claims, calling them “erroneous,” while pointing to its moderation system and ongoing safety initiatives. According to company data, 36% of Roblox users are under 13, making safety a critical issue.

Immediate Policy Change: Restricted Content Visibility

The first change went live on August 29, 2025, with Roblox removing Restricted-rated experiences from search results and recommendations for users under 18. The company explained that this update is designed to reduce visibility of inappropriate content to younger audiences.

New Minimum Age Requirement for Adult Content

Roblox has also announced a bigger shift: by the end of 2025, the minimum age for accessing Restricted-rated content will rise from 17 to 18 years old. This effectively blocks underage users from entering adult-oriented experiences altogether.

However, there’s one exception. Roblox creators who are 17 and have already published Restricted-rated content will still be able to access and maintain their own games. That said, they won’t be able to publish new Restricted experiences until they turn 18.

Age verification is handled through the Account Info tab in Settings and requires uploading a government-issued ID—a measure that has already sparked debate among longtime users.

Stricter Oversight for All Experiences

Alongside these updates, Roblox will also disable all unrated games starting September 30, 2025, ensuring that every active experience on the platform carries an age rating. This move is meant to give parents and players greater certainty about the type of content they’re engaging with.

Mixed Reactions From the Community

The new policies have been met with mixed feedback. While many parents welcome the changes as a step toward safer gaming, some users are frustrated by the government ID verification requirement, especially those who have been on Roblox for over a decade and feel their account history proves they are adults.

A Turning Point for Roblox Safety Standards

By raising the age requirement and tightening controls on unrated content, Roblox is taking a firm stance on child safety in online gaming. Whether these efforts will ease regulatory pressure remains to be seen, but the platform is making clear strides toward balancing creativity, freedom, and protection for its massive player base.
