Red Dead Redemption 2 has officially galloped past 77 million copies sold worldwide, according to the latest Take-Two Interactive earnings report. Nearly seven years after its 2018 launch, Rockstar’s Wild West epic continues to sell at a pace that defies expectations, cementing its status as a modern gaming legend.

From Seventh to Sixth in Just One Year

In May 2024, RDR2 held the title of the seventh best-selling game of all time with 63 million copies sold. Just one year later, it has climbed to 6th place, moving a staggering 14 million additional units in that time frame.

The newest financial update reveals that the Red Dead series has sold over 104 million units globally, with Red Dead Redemption 2 accounting for the lion’s share. Notably, the game crossed the 70 million sales milestone in early February 2025, meaning it sold roughly 7 million copies in just a few months.

Best-Selling Game in the U.S. Over the Past Seven Years

Take-Two also confirmed that RDR2 is the best-selling title in the United States by dollar amount for the past seven years — an extraordinary achievement for a single-player-focused game with no major content updates in years.

Defying the Odds Despite Price Hikes and No Next-Gen Version

What makes these numbers even more remarkable is the context.

  • Earlier in 2025, Rockstar raised prices for both Red Dead Redemption titles in several markets, including the UK, Chile, Brazil, and the Czech Republic.

  • RDR2 still lacks a native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version, and hasn’t received a major update in years.

Despite these hurdles, the game’s immersive storytelling, meticulous world-building, and strong word of mouth continue to drive sales.

A Modern Classic That Won’t Slow Down

While the Grand Theft Auto franchise remains Rockstar’s crown jewel, Red Dead Redemption 2 has proven it can hold its own in the top-seller charts. With its continued momentum and global appeal, it’s clear that Arthur Morgan’s story isn’t just a chapter in gaming history — it’s a legend still being written.
