RE Leaker Backtracks and Fuels Hype for Code: Veronica Remake

Resident Evil Code Veronica remake rumor with Ashford family background

The rumored Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is once again making headlines. A trusted Capcom insider recently suggested that the project is a big-budget reimagining, comparable to Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. The claim, however, appears to contradict the same source’s earlier comments, raising questions about the remake’s true scope.

The Insider Behind the Rumor

The information comes from Dusk Golem, also known as AestheticGamer, a leaker with a long history of credible Capcom insights. Back in May 2024, Dusk Golem was the first to report that Capcom was indeed developing a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, the 2000 survival horror classic that fans have long requested.

The August 2025 Claim

In a August 22, 2025 social media post (source), Dusk Golem claimed that the Code: Veronica remake will feature a “big budget” similar to Capcom’s most celebrated modern remakes. The comment came in response to a fan hoping for a reimagining that would dive deeper into the Ashford family’s storyline, one of the key elements of the original game.

Contradiction or Clarification?

This new statement contrasts with September 2024, when Dusk Golem suggested that future Resident Evil remakes may not be as ambitious as Resident Evil 4’s. At the time, they implied that RE4 Remake was considered Capcom’s “crown jewel of remakes,” and that subsequent projects might be more modest in scope.

However, the latest update doesn’t outright contradict the earlier stance. Instead, it suggests a shift in expectations, hinting that Code: Veronica may actually be more ambitious than originally thought.

Shared Development Team

Adding fuel to the hype, Dusk Golem also noted that the remake is being developed by the same team responsible for Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes. Given the critical and commercial success of those projects, this detail has significantly raised fan excitement.

Connection to Resident Evil Zero Remake

Dusk Golem has also consistently mentioned that a Resident Evil Zero remake is in development. According to their insights, Zero will likely release before Code: Veronica, possibly setting the stage for the larger and more ambitious Veronica project.

While Capcom has yet to officially confirm anything, the latest round of rumors has reignited hope that fans may finally get the Code: Veronica remake they’ve been waiting for. If Dusk Golem’s claims hold true, players can expect a big-budget reimagining worthy of the original game’s legacy.

Until then, all eyes are on Capcom’s next moves as Resident Evil’s remake roadmap becomes increasingly intriguing.
