After months of global backlash, Sony has finally lifted purchase and access restrictions on several major PlayStation games on Steam — including Helldivers 2, God of War Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
This change comes following widespread criticism over Sony’s previously enforced requirement that players link their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts to Steam, a service not available in many regions.
🚫 Why Were PlayStation Games Delisted?
The controversy began with Helldivers 2, which was delisted from 177 countries shortly after launch due to the mandatory PSN linking policy. This move ignited massive backlash from the gaming community, resulting in review bombs and public outcry that eventually forced PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios to drop the PSN requirement.
Following this, other PlayStation games like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered also faced similar scrutiny for requiring PSN access for multiplayer features — a stance that Sony has since reversed.
🌍 Global Availability Restored
According to SteamDB and a social media update from trusted insider Wario64, the restrictions on purchasing the four PlayStation titles were quietly removed at 1:54 PM Eastern on Friday, June 13.
As a result, Steam users in dozens of previously blocked countries can now freely purchase and play these games without being forced to link a PSN account.
🗣️ Fan Feedback Makes a Difference
This move marks a major win for consumer advocacy in gaming. The original decision to delist titles and enforce mandatory PSN logins was met with near-universal disapproval. Many players in affected regions were unable to access games they had paid for, simply because PSN wasn’t supported in their country.
Sony’s reversal demonstrates the power of community feedback, and how studios are increasingly being held accountable for restrictive digital policies.
📦 What Games Are Now Available?
The following titles have had regional restrictions lifted:
-
Helldivers 2
-
God of War Ragnarok
-
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
-
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
These games can now be purchased and launched on Steam across multiple previously blocked regions.
🔮 What’s Next?
The removal of these restrictions signals that Sony may be rethinking its global PC strategy. As PlayStation continues to expand into the PC market, respecting regional accessibility and platform flexibility will be essential for long-term success.
