James Bond 007 First Light gameplay reveal announced for PlayStation State of Play September 3

After weeks of speculation and insider reports, Sony has officially confirmed that the next PlayStation State of Play will take place on September 3, with the spotlight firmly on 007 First Light. The event promises an extended look at IO Interactive’s ambitious James Bond origin story, with over 30 minutes of exclusive gameplay.

A Deep Dive Into 007 First Light

While many fans were hoping for updates on Marvel’s Wolverine or Saros, Sony has clarified that this State of Play will be dedicated entirely to 007 First Light. Developed by IO Interactive, the studio behind the acclaimed Hitman franchise, the title marks the first official James Bond game in 14 years.

007 First Light was initially revealed during June’s State of Play showcase, surprising long-time Bond fans with a cinematic first trailer. Although the game is still targeting a broad 2026 release window, this week’s deep dive could reveal more concrete details.

Event Details

According to Sony’s official blog, the broadcast will begin on September 3 at 11 AM PT / 7 PM BST / 8 PM CEST. Viewers can tune in via PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

The show will feature a full playthrough of Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit, highlighting high-speed car chases, stealth-based infiltration, and intense shootouts. Yann Roskell, Senior Global Communication Manager at IO Interactive, confirmed that the presentation will provide a substantial look at how the studio is adapting the iconic spy into an original video game narrative.

What We Don’t Know Yet

Fans are still waiting to learn who will portray James Bond in 007 First Light, as IO Interactive has deliberately kept the casting under wraps. The developers have emphasized that they want players to focus on the story and gameplay first. It also remains unclear whether the event will include announcements regarding a final release date or additional story details.

Other PlayStation Updates

While 007 First Light will dominate this week’s State of Play, those eager for more from other big titles will have to wait. Ghost of Yotei, set to launch in October, won’t appear here, but it is confirmed to be showcased at Tokyo Game Show 2025 alongside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The event runs from September 25–28 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

For James Bond fans, this is shaping up to be one of the most significant reveals in recent years. IO Interactive’s proven expertise in stealth gameplay makes them a natural fit for 007, and this State of Play will finally give the world a taste of what to expect from First Light.
