Bethesda has officially revealed the contents of Update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which is currently available on Steam Beta as of July 9, 2025. This much-anticipated patch focuses heavily on improving the game’s performance while also addressing numerous bugs and introducing new gameplay customization options.

From Remaster to Remake: What’s New?

Since its surprise release earlier this year, Oblivion Remastered has been praised for its significant graphical overhaul and gameplay improvements, earning an impressive average critic score of 81 on OpenCritic. The update 1.2 continues Bethesda and Virtuos’s effort to refine the open-world RPG by fixing a variety of issues related to UI, quests, and overall stability.

Performance Improvements at the Core

One of the most requested updates from players, especially those on consoles, was better performance. Update 1.2 directly tackles these concerns by reducing frame rate drops in certain dungeons, decreasing hitching in the open world, and optimizing the rendering of water, weather effects, and character animations. These optimizations promise a smoother and more immersive experience.

New Gameplay Customization Features

The update also adds deeper difficulty customization, allowing players to fine-tune settings like “Player Combat Damage” and “Enemy Combat Damage.” This gives players more control over their challenge level, enhancing the RPG experience to suit different playstyles.

How to Access Update 1.2

Players interested in trying the update early can opt-in through Steam Beta. Simply right-click Oblivion Remastered in your Steam library, select “Properties,” navigate to the “Betas” tab, and select “Beta” from the drop-down menu.

Update 1.2 marks a significant step forward in addressing player feedback and improving Oblivion Remastered. With better performance and more gameplay options, the game’s remaster now feels closer to a true next-gen experience for both longtime fans and new players.
