
June 16, 2025 – Nintendo Switch Online services are currently experiencing widespread issues due to a major Google Cloud outage. Core multiplayer functionality for games like Mario Kart World and Splatoon 3 has been disrupted, and even Nintendo-associated mobile games like Pokémon GO are affected.
🛠️ What’s Causing the Issue?
The disruption was first reported around 3:30 PM Eastern by Twitter user @OatmealDome, who confirmed that a Google Cloud service outage is impacting Nintendo’s online infrastructure. Since Nintendo hosts much of its online backend on Google Cloud, connectivity to several major titles has become unreliable or completely unavailable.

On Down Detector, over 14,000 reports poured in confirming issues with Nintendo Switch Online services, and an additional 4,000+ reports cited problems with Pokémon GO.

According to @OatmealDome, not all services are down. The Nintendo eShop and specific online games like Tetris 99 remain unaffected by the outage.

Google acknowledged the issue in a public incident report, stating that engineers have located the root cause and are actively working on mitigation steps.
