New Job Listing Suggests Next God of War Game

Kratos from God of War Ragnarok with Santa Monica Studio job listing hinting at new game

A new job listing at Sony’s Santa Monica Studio for a combat designer may lend credence to the idea that a next God of War game is already in development. The listing, posted on Sony’s official Greenhouse job board, states that the position is a contract role and calls for candidates familiar with the combat design systems used in recent God of War titles, including God of War Ragnarok.

The job post, which can be found here, indicates that Santa Monica Studio is seeking a Sr. Combat Designer to help create enemies and boss encounters for an unannounced project. The role requires experience working with third-person melee action RPGs and, more specifically, fluency in the combat mechanics used in God of War (2018) and Ragnarok. This detail has fueled speculation that the studio is already laying the groundwork for Kratos’ next adventure.

A Busy Time for the Franchise

The timing of the listing arrives as Sony continues to expand the God of War brand. While no new God of War game is expected to launch in 2025, rumors have suggested that Santa Monica Studio may also be working on a spin-off tied to Kratos’ Greek origins. If true, this would mark a significant departure from the Norse setting that has defined the series since 2018.

The last entry set in Greece was GoW: Ascension in 2013, a prequel that gave players insight into Kratos’ early battles with Ares. Despite positive reception, it was never re-released outside of its original PS3 launch.

Still in Early Development

Alongside the combat designer listing, Santa Monica Studio is also hiring for multiple roles in art and quality assurance, suggesting that the next GoW game is still in early development. Fans should therefore temper expectations, as it may be some time before Sony is ready to announce its next major project.

God of War’s Future

Between the continued production of the GoW Amazon TV series and these new job postings, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. While official confirmation remains absent, the emphasis on combat systems from the last two games strongly implies that the Norse saga—or something directly inspired by it—will carry forward into the next title.

For now, fans will need to wait for Santa Monica Studio and Sony to officially share their plans for the future of Kratos.
