Hotta Studio has finally addressed the ongoing AI controversy surrounding Neverness to Everness, following heavy discussions within the gaming community over the use of AI-generated assets in the game’s promotional materials and environments.
According to the developer, the core elements of the project — including its main characters, story, and worldbuilding — are still being created directly by human artists, writers, and designers. Hotta Studio emphasized that AI tools were only used in a limited capacity to assist with certain background assets and environmental details during development.
The studio also clarified that AI was not involved in creating central story content or key playable characters. However, the statement confirmed that some disputed visual assets are currently under internal review after fans raised concerns online about similarities to existing anime artwork and possible AI-generated imagery.
Among the assets being re-evaluated are “Clear Skies in Summer” and “Pink Paws Heist,” both of which became major talking points across social media platforms and gaming forums. Community members previously accused the visuals of resembling AI-generated art styles and questioned whether parts of the promotional content had been created using generative AI tools.
Player reactions to the clarification have been mixed. Some fans appreciated the studio’s willingness to openly discuss the issue instead of remaining silent, viewing the response as a positive step toward transparency. Others, however, believe the explanation still leaves too many unanswered questions, especially regarding alleged AI usage in cutscenes, trailers, and additional marketing materials.
The controversy highlights a growing debate within the gaming industry over the role of AI-assisted production in modern game development. While some studios see AI as a supportive tool for efficiency, many artists and players remain concerned about originality, ethical sourcing, and the impact on creative work.
Despite the criticism, anticipation for Neverness to Everness remains high, with many players still interested in the game’s urban fantasy setting, anime-inspired visuals, and ambitious open-world gameplay systems.
