The latest MH Wilds update, version 1.021, has introduced fresh features and balance tweaks—but also a serious crash bug that’s frustrating players. Capcom has confirmed it is aware of the problem and is already working on a hotfix to restore stability.

A Crash Bug That Hits Mid-Hunt

According to an official post on Monster Hunter’s status account, the crash occurs when players faint and return to camp during Fast Travel or while on a quest under certain conditions. The issue affects multiple platforms and has disrupted hunts for many players.

Capcom plans to release Update 1.021.01.00 to fix the bug, but there is no confirmed release date yet.

What Update 1.021 Added

Despite the bug, Update 1.021 did bring notable changes to the game:

  • New appraisal item: Glowing Stone, which can yield valuable Talismans.

  • New gameplay option: Recoil Aim Assist for improved ranged weapon handling.

  • Melding Pot update: A new feature related to Appraised Talismans.

  • Balance adjustments: Multiple tweaks across weapons and monster encounters.

  • Bug fixes: Dozens of smaller issues resolved to improve gameplay flow.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Current Challenges

MH Wilds launched earlier this year to huge success, selling over 10 million copies—with 80% sold within the first three days. However, momentum has slowed, with only 477,000 copies sold in the last quarter and a steep 98% drop in Steam’s player base.

While the game still boasts an average score of 89 on OpenCritic, fan criticism has grown over the lack of frequent updates and persistent performance issues—particularly on PC.

Future Improvements on the Horizon

Game director Yuya Tokuda has stated that upcoming patches will focus on reducing CPU strain without compromising visual quality, with major performance improvements planned for the fourth title update this winter.

If Capcom can address both stability and performance while delivering new content, Monster Hunter Wilds could regain its standing in the action RPG community.

The 1.021 crash bug is a setback for Monster Hunter Wilds, but with Capcom already working on a fix, players can hope for a quick resolution. Once stability and performance are improved, the game could once again dominate the hunting grounds it once ruled.
