A new entry in the beloved LEGO Batman franchise, titled LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, has officially been announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, giving fans of DC’s most iconic superhero a brand-new adventure. It has been more than a decade since the LEGO Batman series last graced consoles and PC, but attendees at Europe’s biggest gaming showcase are already getting hands-on with a playable demo.
The LEGO Batman series began in 2008, with four official titles released over the years, the most recent being LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in 2014. While Batman made appearances in The LEGO Batman Movie Game (2017) and LEGO DC Super-Villains (2018), fans have long awaited a true continuation of the franchise.
During the reveal, Jonathan Smith, head of development at TT Games, described the new title as “the definitive essential Batman story.” The game will follow Bruce Wayne’s journey from his humble beginnings training with the League of Shadows, to fighting crime on the streets of Gotham City, and eventually becoming the legendary Dark Knight. The story will blend iconic Batman moments recognizable to longtime fans with deeper cuts from comics, films, and television shows.

Open-World Gotham City: Glide across rooftops, explore dark alleys, and drive through the streets in the Batmobile.

Allies and Villains: Join forces with Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, and Commissioner Gordon, each with unique gadgets and abilities. Classic villains like The Joker, Penguin, and Bane will challenge players throughout Gotham.
With its mix of nostalgic LEGO humor, modern open-world gameplay, and a definitive take on Batman’s story, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is shaping up to be one of the most exciting upcoming superhero games.
The game will release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with pre-orders and wishlisting options expected soon.
