Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 featured plenty of surprise premieres, but one of the most striking reveals was La Divina Commedia, an upcoming dark fantasy ARPG from Jyamma Games. Drawing direct inspiration from the legendary work of Italian poet Dante Alighieri, the game reimagines the trials of Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory with a spooky action-horror twist.
Inspired by Dante’s Timeless Masterpiece
The project takes heavy influence from The Divine Comedy, Dante’s iconic 1321 epic widely considered one of the greatest works of Western literature. The poem depicts an allegorical journey through the afterlife, and Jyamma Games looks set to bring that vision to life in a haunting ARPG format.
La Divina Commedia will feature a dungeon system promising a “never repetitive experience,” alongside otherworldly beasts and grotesque environments. According to the developers, the game will test players’ courage and cunning as they face infernal creatures across dynamically shifting realms.
Soulslike Combat and Dark Fantasy Atmosphere
The official reveal trailer begins with Dante’s famous opening lines: “Midway through the journey of our life, I found myself in a dark forest, for the straight path had been lost.” From there, players are introduced to the protagonist, a lone wanderer with sewn-shut lips and ghostly eyes, battling an armored, beastlike enemy in eerie red-tinted woods.
The fight showcases combat mechanics that immediately drew comparisons to Lies of P, Elden Ring, and Black Myth: Wukong. With deliberate movement, precise dodges, and heavy-hitting attacks, the game seems to adopt a soulslike framework while retaining its own surreal identity.
Unique Vision Among ARPGs
While many ARPGs embrace myth and folklore, La Divina Commedia stands out for its commitment to Dante’s themes of sin, redemption, and transcendence. Fans are hopeful that Jyamma Games will maintain the philosophical and symbolic essence of The Divine Comedy, ensuring the title offers more than just another soulslike action game.
At present, the game is planned for release on PC via Steam, though the developer noted a temporary issue with the store page is being resolved. Once live, players will be able to wishlist the game ahead of its official launch.
