Square Enix has officially canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the mobile RPG that was first announced in 2022 and planned for a 2024 release. Despite high expectations, the project faced multiple setbacks—including canceled beta tests and indefinite delays—that eventually led to its cancellation.

Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link was designed as a GPS-based mobile role-playing game, similar in concept to Pokémon GO. The game encouraged players to visit real-world locations to progress through the story, marking the first location-based entry in the Kingdom Hearts series. Players would assume the role of a Keyblade wielder, exploring the “blank era” between Union χ and Dark Road, a little-explored timeline in the Kingdom Hearts lore.
Unfortunately, after numerous delays, the game has been shelved indefinitely. According to a statement from Square Enix, concerns over the team’s ability to deliver a sustainable, long-term live-service experience played a major role in the decision to halt development. This hints at challenges related to the game’s live-service aspects, including potential technical difficulties or cost concerns.
With development now officially ended, fans of the franchise will have to wait and see if any of the story elements planned for Missing-Link might be integrated into future Kingdom Hearts projects. Meanwhile, attention remains focused on the upcoming mainline game, Kingdom Hearts IV, which promises to continue the beloved saga.
