A brand-new Halloween game is on the way, and this time it’s in the hands of IllFonic, the American developer well-known for its asymmetric multiplayer titles. Revealed during Gamescom 2025, the upcoming project—officially titled Halloween: The Game—is set to launch in 2026 for multiple platforms.
Over the decades, John Carpenter’s legendary Halloween franchise has made cameo appearances in popular titles such as Dead by Daylight, Fortnite, and Call of Duty. However, fully-fledged standalone games have been rare. Aside from the 1983 Atari 2600 adaptation and Boss Team Games’ 2024 RetroRealms: Halloween DLC, the franchise hasn’t had much direct representation in gaming. That’s now set to change with IllFonic’s upcoming release.
During Gamescom, IllFonic treated fans to a two-minute reveal trailer that introduced the game’s eerie setting and, of course, Michael Myers himself. While the trailer doesn’t show direct gameplay, it highlights the tone of the project, promising an experience faithful to the 1978 horror classic.
Gameplay-wise, Halloween: The Game is designed as a one-versus-many stealth horror experience. Players can step into the role of Michael Myers, stalking unsuspecting residents of Haddonfield, or band together as civilians to survive the night—alerting authorities before it’s too late.
IllFonic is co-developing and co-publishing the title with Gun Interactive, the studio behind The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. To ensure authenticity, the developers have partnered with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, incorporating iconic locations, atmospheric visuals, and even a soundtrack inspired by John Carpenter’s original score.
While the game will be primarily asymmetric multiplayer, IllFonic has confirmed that Halloween: The Game will also support solo play. In its Story Mode, players can take on the experience with AI-controlled bots, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the chilling world of Halloween even without a team.
With its planned 2026 release, Halloween: The Game is shaping up to be a must-play for horror fans, offering both nostalgic authenticity and fresh, multiplayer-driven thrills.
