GTA 6 Isn’t the Only Game Rockstar Is Developing

It’s been twelve long years since Grand Theft Auto 5 hit the shelves, and for many fans, that gap meant one thing — Rockstar Games must be putting everything it has into Grand Theft Auto 6. While that assumption makes sense, it turns out it’s not entirely true.

In a recent interview with CNBC (via TheGamer and Rockstar Mag), Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that Rockstar isn’t solely focused on its next Grand Theft Auto installment. When asked how much of the studio’s resources are going toward GTA 6, Zelnick admitted the company has “a lot of other things going on” alongside the highly anticipated sequel. While he didn’t elaborate on specifics, he emphasized that GTA 6 remains Rockstar’s “primary focus.”

The Wait for GTA 6 Continues

Rockstar officially revealed Grand Theft Auto 6 in December 2023 with a jaw-dropping trailer, initially aiming for a Fall 2025 release. However, earlier this year, the studio announced a delay, pushing the launch to May 26, 2026. Rockstar stated the additional time was necessary to ensure the game meets the high expectations set by both the studio and its fans.

Unlike annual franchises like Call of Duty or WWE 2K, Rockstar takes a slower, more meticulous approach to its major releases — a strategy that has kept anticipation sky-high.

What Else Could Rockstar Be Working On?

Zelnick’s hint at other projects has fueled speculation across the gaming community. Rockstar owns several beloved IPs, and fans have been vocal about wanting revivals.

  • Bully Remake or Sequel
Players have long begged for a return to Bullworth Academy, though solid leaks or announcements remain scarce.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Native Current-Gen Version
The 2018 open-world epic already runs on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility, but rumors suggest a fully native version could be in the works. Such an upgrade might bring visual enhancements, performance boosts, and potentially even new content.

  • Other Possibilities
Given Rockstar’s history, projects could range from remasters of classics like GTA IV or Max Payne to entirely new IPs.

Balancing Focus and Variety

While GTA 6 remains the crown jewel in Rockstar’s pipeline, Zelnick’s comments confirm that the studio’s creative energy is spread across multiple ventures. For fans, that could mean a future filled not only with the chaos of Vice City’s streets but also with reimagined classics or entirely new worlds.

Until Rockstar breaks its silence on these mysterious “other things,” gamers will have to wait — and speculate — as the countdown to Grand Theft Auto 6 continues.
