In a recent update, the team behind Ghost of Yotei revealed exciting new details about the game’s combat system, confirming a significant departure from one of Ghost of Tsushima’s most iconic features. Set over 300 years after its predecessor, Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to carve its own path with a fresh storyline, distinct visuals, and a completely reworked combat approach.

With its release date locked in for October 2, 2025, the developers have steadily shared fresh insights, building anticipation. While Ghost of Tsushima sold over 13 million copies and was lauded for its fluid combat and stance-switching mechanics, Ghost of Yotei is opting for something different.

Creative director Nate Fox spoke with GamesRadar, confirming that the classic four-stance system—Stone, Water, Wind, and Moon—has been replaced entirely by five unique weapons, each designed for a specific combat purpose. “In fact, we added a fifth [weapon],” Fox emphasized, signaling these weapons offer more than just cosmetic variety.

The new combat system allows players to utilize a heavy spear to toss enemies into the air or wield the kusarigama to control crowds efficiently. Moreover, Ghost of Yotei introduces an innovative disarm mechanic that forces players to adapt quickly mid-fight by grabbing enemy weapons and using them in combat, adding a fresh layer of strategic depth.

This overhaul reflects the developers’ ambition to evolve the action-RPG experience, setting Ghost of Yotei apart from its celebrated predecessor. With dynamic weapons, tactical disarming, and a world steeped in atmospheric storytelling, fans have plenty to look forward to when the game launches.
