Forza Horizon 5 has officially crossed a major milestone on PlayStation 5, reportedly selling over 2 million copies within its first month on the platform. This achievement marks a historic moment for the racing franchise, which had remained Xbox-exclusive for nearly two decades until its PlayStation debut earlier this year.

According to a report from PushSquare, the sales figure comes from an updated LinkedIn profile of former Turn 10 Studios game and level designer Harrison Bolin. His resume highlights that Forza Horizon 5 sold a staggering 2 million units on PS5 within just a month of release — a stunning accomplishment for a game that originally launched in 2021.

From Xbox Exclusive to PlayStation Hit

First released for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in November 2021, Forza Horizon 5 was widely praised for its stunning visuals, open-world gameplay set in Mexico, and deep car customization. It has since become one of the most beloved entries in the franchise.

But the real shock came in April 2025, when Forza Horizon 5 launched on PlayStation 5 — breaking a nearly 20-year-long run of Xbox exclusivity for the Forza series that began with Forza Motorsport in 2005.

Despite arriving on PS5 years after its original release, Forza Horizon 5 wasted no time making an impact. It became the second best-selling game in the U.S. for April, even though it launched on the 29th of that month. In May, it went even further, ranking as the top-selling PS5 game, contributing to over $100 million in revenue for Microsoft.

A Turning Point in Platform Strategy?

The PS5 success of Forza Horizon 5 could signal a broader strategy shift from Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios. As cross-platform publishing becomes more common, franchises once tightly bound to a single console may be poised for expansion. PlayStation gamers have shown a clear appetite for Forza Horizon 5, and the game’s strong early sales could encourage Microsoft to bring more of its legacy franchises to PlayStation — potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of AAA gaming.
