Remedy Entertainment has announced that its newest title, FBC: Firebreak, has officially surpassed 1 million players just nine days after its global release on June 17. The figure includes players across multiple platforms as well as those accessing the game via Xbox Game Pass, where it launched on day one.

Marking a bold departure from Remedy’s traditionally single-player, narrative-heavy titles like Control and Alan Wake, FBC: Firebreak is the studio’s first multiplayer co-op experience. The game immerses players back into the mysterious world of the Federal Bureau of Control, unfolding six years after the events of Control.

A New Chapter in the Oldest House

Set once again within the surreal halls of the Oldest House, Firebreak pits squads of players—called “Firebreakers”—against the corrupted forces of the Hiss. Players must explore distorted sectors of the Bureau’s ever-shifting headquarters in a mission to reclaim it from supernatural chaos.

Though the game has launched to mixed critical reviews, with some citing the lack of tutorials and steep learning curve, it’s resonated with long-time fans of Remedy’s connected universe.

Remedy’s Vision for Firebreak

Interestingly, FBC: Firebreak isn’t labeled a live-service game, but it will receive consistent post-launch support. Despite its lower-than-average price tag for a triple-A release, Remedy has committed to delivering free content updates in the months ahead.

“We’re committed to growing Firebreak alongside its community,” said a Remedy spokesperson. “This is just the beginning of our journey into multiplayer experiences.”

With its unique blend of surrealist horror, cooperative gameplay, and the narrative-rich world Remedy is known for, FBC: Firebreak is carving a distinct space for itself in the competitive shooter genre—even if it’s not the smoothest start.
