Fans Suspect “Wandance” Anime Used AI Animation

Oktober 14, 2025

There’s something pretty interesting and a bit controversial about the manga adaptation “Wandance” getting an anime. It’s been stirring some discussion because people suspect that some of its scenes might have used AI, especially in the dance sequences. Many fans pointed out that the dance animation looks really stiff and seems more like 3D CGI instead of traditional 2D animation.

The production committee behind this anime is Kodansha, which also worked on Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) before. They’re known for having pretty insane deadlines — around 10 months, when an anime production usually needs at least 16 months to be properly made.

The anime adaptation of Wandance is being handled by MadHouse and Cyclone Graphics. MadHouse is a well-known studio that worked on Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Season 2), while Cyclone Graphics is a relatively new name in anime production. The studio was founded in 2002, but until now, they’ve mostly acted as producers or project supervisors rather than directly animating a full series.

When Wandance first aired — featuring a mix of 2D and 3D visuals — it immediately received criticism from fans. The 3D CGI dance scenes looked off and didn’t capture the same energy as the manga, leading many to believe that AI animation might have been involved.
